I'm so happy, thinking about this movie has gotten me into the holiday mood. So here it is, my first ever OS fanfic christmas special. Enjoy!
A VERY MERRY OPEN SEASON CHRISTMAS SPECIAL
Today was the most important holiday of the year. One where everyone spent time with friends and family. That's right, it's Christmas. The best time of the year where everyone had fun celebrating having a blast! Everyone in the city of Timberline was happy.....but NOT everyone. Beth, who hasn't been the same since she let Boog go, was feeling very lonely this year for christmas. She sat down in her big comforty chair, staring at the fireplace in front of her with the pretty colorful stockings hanging on the fireplace. She sighs sadly. This was her first time ever having christmas without Boog, but she might as well get use to it since Boog cannot live with her anymore. Just like every year, Beth was invited to come over to her grandmother's house celebrating a christmas party with her family. She always celebrated it every year since she was a child.
Beth miss having christmas with Boog ever since she brought him back home when he was a cub. But like Gordy said, she did had to let him go someday and she did. Without Boog, Beth was now back to celebrating the christmas party with her family, including her rotten grandmother who did not like Boog since the time Beth rescue him from the forest during Boog's cub years.
Meanwhile, far from the woods and away from Timberline in the middle of the forest, Boog sat down on a mountain staring at the sky. He sat there hopeless as he watch Serge and the his duck army flying freely across the bright beautiful clear blue sky. Oh, how everyone look so happy this time of year. Everyone expect for Boog of course.
"Hey Boogster!!" A voice called. It was Boog's annoying but caring little buddy Elliot. Elliot did not grew back his antlers ever since the day Shaw ran over him with the first antler, and then lost the other one after almost giving up his life to save his bear pal. Boog gave out a sad sigh but did not glance over at Elliot.
Elliot frown. "What's wrong with you Boogster? Why the long face?" He ask him. "It's been my first time in the woods, and Beth is celebrating christmas without me this year." Boog replies. Oh, how he love christmas. It was his favorite holiday. But how that he was living in the woods, it was not the same to him. Elliot didn't understand what Boog meant about the special holiday.
"What's a Christmas?" Elliot ask him. Boog did not believe Elliot's question. Wasn't there anything this silly buck knew about? Perhaps he and the forest animals didn't celebrate holidays. Already it was the middle of winter in the forest and yet, this crazy hornless mule deer did not knew anything about a christmas.
"What's a christmas?!?!" Boog cries. "Don't you celebrate it?"
Elliot shook his head no. "Christmas is the time of giving. A time where friends and familes celebrate to be together. There's presents, there's sweets, there's christmas carols, there's...." Boog starts to explains, but Elliot suddenly gets excited when he heard the word sweets.
"SWEETS?! Wait...do they have Woo-hoo bars too? Elliot asks. "Cornflake, they got the best sweets you can imagine." Boog told him. This made Elliot's mouth water. He always love eating woo-hoo bars, but hearing the sound of sweet sugerly christmas treats sounded good! He wanted to go now.
"Let's go!!" Elliot says. "What, what do you mean go? Go where?" Boog asks. "To Timberline, if you miss the shorts lady so much like you said, why don't we pay her a visit? Elliot asked. Boog didn't think it was a good idea. He remember Beth once told him she used to go to her grandmother's house every year for the holidays before she rescue him from the forest when he was a cub.
"Pay Beth a visit? I don't know Elliot.... Boog said. Was this such a good idea Elliot came up with? But like always, Elliot always found a way to go wherever he wanted to go, even if Boog didn't want to come with.
"Come on!!! Please please please please please please...." Elliot says, saying the word "please" super fast over and over and over again. He had to go. He just had to, and he wanted Boog to come with him.
"All right, all right. We'll go." Boog said giving up. There was no way to get out of this crazy idea Elliot wanted to do, but he figure Elliot only wanted to go there for the sweets.
"WOO-HOO!!" Elliot shouts for a joy making a back flip and doing a little dance. "Who's gonna celebrate christmas in Timberline? ME!! Oh yeah, Uh-huh. That's right! Me. Oh yeah..." Elliot says still dancing on his little feet.
"But don't get any crazy ideas Elliot." Boog warn him. "Crazy...what crazy ideas?" Elliot ask him. "Like....say if we tell all the forest animals to come with us. That's a messed up plan you can think of." Boog answers. "Don't worry Boogster, The Incredible Mr. E will not tell a soul. Cross my heart....and hope my antlers grow back."
Boog groans, rolling his eyes at him. If he knew Elliot better than anyone else, he knew Elliot cannot keep his promise, but decied to give him a chance. "Come on...."
"WOO-HOO!! Elliot shouts happily again. Both deer and bear were going on another great adventure, and this time it was gonna be the best one they ever had. But they had to find a way to sneak in without getting caught by the humans. When they got to Timberline, they saw many less people walking their way driving and cross the town, going in store by store delievering and buying presents for friends and family.
Elliot shiver. "Brrr.....it's....it's....IT'S SO COLD!!" He cries, his fur shaking to death. "Shhhh... quiet Elliot. Don't make a sound. We can't let the people see us." Boog shush him. "W-wwhy ca--cann't they brrr.....lower down the.....weather here?" Elliot says, still shivering. Boog ingore Elliot's reply so he took him with him to carefully sneak past the stores and houses. As they were passing another store, something caught Elliot's eye.
He turn and press his face to the glass window, looking at all sorts of christmas treats and of course Santa Claus himself. "Hey Boog, what's with the fat man in the red suit?" Elliot asks, pointing at the window. Boog follow him and press his face close to the window too. "It's Santa Claus." Boog asked. The big mighty grizzly had admire the big dude ever since he first learn the meaning of christmas.
"Sandy Claws?" Says Elliot. He didn't get it. "Not Sandy Claws, Santa Claus!! Boog corrects Elliot. As always, the deer was too clueless to figure out anything on his own. "Hmmmm....the fat guy's got a girl's name and he has claws?! I don't get it. Where's the claws? I don't see them." Elliot said.
"IT'S SANTA CLAUS!!" Boog screams at Elliot angerily. The policeman who was standing outside of the store, spotted Elliot and Boog. He grab his walky-talky telling the other officers about the hornless mule deer and the 900 pound grizzly bear who was looking through the window. "Boog, A human spotted us! Let's get outta here!!" Elliot shouts and makes a run of it. Boog follows his little deer buddy behind.
The policeman ran after the bear and deer until he lost sigh of them and went back to the store. Boog and Elliot were both hiding behind Beth's house. "Is he gone?" Elliot whispers. Boog nods. "Yeah he's gone. That was a close one." He says. "What were you thinking Elliot? You could had gotten us in trouble."
"Well excuse me! I'm not the one who's sooo fat, that he misses his mommy." Elliot says, making the worst excuse ever. "That's your excuse?" He raises an eyebrown at Elliot. "I got other ones. "Elliot grins. He look at the big huge house they were hiding at. "Where are we?" He asks. " Looks like we're at Beth's house." Boog answers.
"Where's your house? I mean...the garage?" Elliot ask Boog. But Boog didn't answer him. Instead his nose started to sniff. It was something yummy and tasty. "Mmmmm...." Boog makes a funny little happy grin on his face as he recongize the sweet smell of hot cocoa. "Dude, quit freaking me out with that nose. You're scaring me with that thing." Says Elliot. Boog follow the scent as he went inside to the front door of Beth's home. The scent was coming from the kitchen. There, he spotted the hot cocoa.
"Ooooh, what's that?" Elliot wonders. He zip past Boog and grab the hot cocoa before Boog can reach him. He swallows the whole hot chocolate in one gulp. "AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!" The deer screams, spiting out the hot chocolate out of his mouth...and nose, and ears. "GEEZ, THAT'S HOT!!" He shouted, as his mouth was burning with heat. There was spilled chocolate all over the ground. Then suddenly, there was a sound of a door opening. Boog gasped. "It's Beth!! Hide!!" Boog cries. Too late. When the door open, Beth and her grandmother appear, getting ready to get more christmas stuff when Beth's grandmother scream, seeing Boog and Elliot in the kitchen. "BEAR! THERE'S A BEAR IN THE HOUSE!!"
"Boog?" Beth whispers. She was suprised to see her beloved dear bear pal again, but what was he doing here on Christmas Eve?
Her grandmother grab a broom. "Shoot bear shoot! Get away from here!!" She yells, banging the broom on Boog. Elliot gotten away just in time, but there was no point for Boog to escape now. "Grandma, what are you doing? Stop it! That's Boog!!" She cries, grabbing the broom away from her. The old lady froze. "Boog? You mean that bear who ruin your show? My god Beth, I knew you should had became a doctor. But noooo, you wanted to be a park ranger and raise a fat bear!!" Her grandmother shouts. Boog growled.
"Grandma, Boog isn't a monster. He's a...."
"He's a bear who belongs in the woods. Now take him back to the forest before he destorys our christmas dinner tonight."
"But Grandma, it's christmas....can't Boog stay with us tonight?" Beth beg. "Fine, but don't bring him to the party tonight. You know how I am againest pets." Her grandma said.
"He's not a pet." Beth cries. "Whatever, now get this place clean up before we get the rest of the christmas things we need for tonight." The old lady says and leaves. Beth walks towards Boog and petted him on the head. The big bear felt guilty ruining Beth's kitchen by accident....if it wasn't for Elliot. "Don't feel bad Boog. I know why you came back. You wanted to see me again...didn't you?" She asks.
Boog nodded his head and licks Beth on the face. She couldn't help but smile so she gives Boog a big hug. "Oh Boog....I miss you too. But you can't stay. You have to go back to the woods where you belong. Don't you like it there?" Beth says. Boog did admit he like the woods, even if it wasn't perfect like Timberline. He purrs a soft growl to Beth as he had begin to nuzzle her with love and attention. "I understand. But you'll have to stay in the garage tonight until I take you back home at the forest. Got it?" She says. Boog agree.
Beth and Boog headed stright to the garage. When they got inside, Boog notice a small christmas present laying on top of his old bed. "Oh I almost forgot." Beth said as she took the present and gave it to Boog. "Now that you're living like a real bear, I still miss you. But I wanted to give you something nice on your last day here for christmas at Timeberline."
Boog unwrap the present, removing the top. Inside was an old favorite toy of his. "Dinkelman." Boog whispers. He took Dinkelman out of the christman present and stare at him, helding it in his plams. "I had to get a new replace for him. I hope you like it." Said Beth.
"BETH!!!" Her grandmother shouted. "It's time to go!!"
"Gotta go Boog. Stay there and don't leave until I get back." She says. Beth gave Boog a quick hug and follow her grandma outside. Both the two women hop into the truck and rode off. Boog miss Dinkelman a lot, but he was a real bear. And real bears cannot go living with silly little teddy bears. But Dinkelman was a special thing to him. He decided to keep him for a while. But there was someone Boog had forgotten about. "Elliot...." He whispers. He had to go find him to make sure if he was all right, but Beth told him not to leave. Not much of a choice to him, since Beth and her spoiled mean grandmother were gone, Boog decided to head off to find Elliot so he did.
Meanwhile Elliot had gotten side track....in other words, he was lost. He try finding Boog all day in Timberline, but sadly had no luck. Then, he spotted something....a doe.
"Giselle!" He says. It was his crush Giselle the doe. He still fell for the same crazy doe, but sometimes he had forgotten she was Ian's girl. Giselle lift up her head and spotted Elliot too. "Elliot is that you?" She said.
"Uhhh...hi Giselle." Elliot gulped. What was he suppose to do now? He felt so....awakard. "What are you doing here? The beavers said you and Boog were heading to the city." She said.
"Huh? Oh yeah...we did!" Elliot said. He had forgotten to keep his promise with Boog eariler, so instead of keeping track of it, he decide to tell Giselle about the big christmas news. "There's this thing called "Christmas" people are having this year in Timberline." He told her.
"Christmas?" A voice said. It was Ian who appear with all the rest of the herd when they heard Elliot telling Giselle about the word "Christmas."
"Oh let me guess....is it a place for losers like you? Hahahahaha." Ian laughs. "That's enough Ian." Giselle warn him. As much as she like Elliot, she didn't like seeing Ian picking on Elliot though she did not admit it.
"What's this thing about a christmas?" Asked Reilly as he appear with the rest of his beaver gang. "I told you they were heading to the city with all that white snow." O'Toole said to Reilly.
"HONK!! A christmas?" Squak Serge when he and his troops group flew in. All the rest of the animals gather around wanting to know more about christmas. They were curious so they kept asking a lot of questions for Elliot.
"Whoa whoa whoa, slow down! One at a time!" Elliot said trying to be patient with the animals. "If there is such a thing as a christmas, why don't you show us Smelliot?" Asked Ian. The big mancho buck still like to call him with that silly stupid teasing name. Elliot across his arms. "All right, I will. Follow me." He said, so he lead. If the animals came with Elliot, perhaps they can help him find Boog back at Timberline.
Back at the city, Boog search for Elliot for many hours, but did not find a single thing from him. "Elliot...where are you? Elliot, come on out! This ain't funny! I ain't playing with you man. Where are you?" He calls, but there was no answer. It was already getting late and still Boog cannot find Elliot anywhere. So he decided to head back, as he was making his way back to the garage, he past by Beth's grandmother's place. He took a peak inside seeing how happy Beth has having with her family.
Suddenly there was a sudden noise. "What was that?" Beth's grandma ask. The family stood quiet. "I didn't hear nothing." Said Beth. "It sounded like...." The grandmother said, but pause when everything in the house started to shake. One of the family members peak through the window, there was a stampede coming in, ready to charge through the house any moment now.
"STAMPEDE!!!" A family member said. All the rest of the family scream, but then....BAM!! Something crash. When the smoke clear, it was Ian and the rest of the animals from the forest. "All right....LET'S PARTY!!!" Shouts Ian. Beth's family scream in terror and ran all over around the house when the animals came in grabbing the dinner....as well as the christmas tree too. Boog watch in horror. Who could had done this...and why was this happening? Then a familar face came too.
"Elliot?" Said Boog. "All right people, party's over. Let's move out!" Ian orders. "You heard the buck, get that tree and let's leave before they stuff us." Reilly says leading the beaver gang to take the christmas tree out. Serge and the duck group help the deers carry the christmas dinner out. When they left, Boog angerily turn to Elliot. "Elliot, what the heck did you do?"
"I didn't do it. I thought these guys were gonna help me find you but...." Elliot tries to say, but Boog had enough of his excuses. "Look what you done Elliot. This is all your fault. Because of that, you ruin Beth's christmas!!!" He yells. Elliot's heart sank. "Boog I...."
"Forget it, I'm outta here." Boog says turning to leave. Elliot hung his deer ears sadly and turn to leave, following the animals back at the forest. But Boog was too upset to leave Timberline, instead of going back to Elliot, he went inside the house and decide to help Beth clean up. But everything was a mess and everyone left all expect for Beth and her grandma. Beth's grandmother was disapointed. When she saw Boog coming in, she didn't shout or complain. Her face had look sorrow with anger and sadness. She turn to leave. Beth slowly pick up the china kitchen wear. She turn to Boog when she sees him. But she said nothing to the big bear.
"You'll have to go back in the woods Boog. I'm sorry...." She says then stays silent the whole thing. But Boog didn't want to leave yet, he didn't want to leave Beth being so sad and alone on christmas eve, not even on christmas day. He hope Beth didn't blame him on this. It was not his fault her christmas dinner party was ruined. He still blame Elliot on this. But then again...what was the true meaning of christmas? After she was done cleaning, Beth grab a scrapbook and sat down on a chair, looking at all the pictures. Boog went over to her side and sat down next to her.
"Remember the good times we used to share Boog?" Beth said, showing Boog all the good times they had together in the scrapbook. Boog smile a bit. Beth sighs. Boog's smile faded when he look at the pictures. He realize christmas wasn't about the fancy gifts or the well cook homemade dinner, it was about spending time with friends and family. But....Beth was the only one who was like family to him. Boog then realize another thing. Beth wasn't the only one who care for him. "Elliot." Boog whispers once more. He takes Dinkelman with him and takes off. "Boog, wait! Where you going?" Beth calls. Boog glances back at Beth, having his fateful moment with her. It was good to be with her after so many years, but Boog needed to be with his real family...back at the woods. Beth look outside, she found out where he needed to go now.
She gives Boog a hug one last time. "I understand. I'm gonna miss ya big guy. Have a merry christmas."Boog hugs her back quick then heads back in the woods. Morning came the next day. It was christmas morning. Everyone in the forest sang, chat and had dinner together next to the christmas tree. Elliot sat far away from them, not being able to join. He was stll upset what Boog had said to him last night. "Hey Elliot. Come join us. The food is great." Giselle calls, but Elliot refused. Giselle frowns and goes back to her christmas meal with Ian and the others. "Ho ho ho......" A voice said.
"Is that...Sandy Claws?" Elliot thought. "Ho ho ho...." The voice again. The other animals heard it too. "What was that?" Said Ian. "IT'S SANDY CLAWS!!!" Elliot shouts happily. "Sandy who?" The rest of the forest animals were confused. "Oh right....I forgot. They don't know nothing about that guy with the girl name." Elliot said to himself. Once he heard the ho ho ho sound again, the voice said. "Anyone ready for holiday cheer?" It was Boog, carrying a christmas present and wearing a Santa Claus hat.
"Hey look it's Boog. He's come back!" Said Reilly. The forest animals smile and cheer. Boog took a bow, but Elliot was still not happy to see him again. He can never forget the harsh thing that hurt Elliot's feelings yesterday. He turn away, not facing in front of his bear pal. "What are you doing here?" He says stubbornly. "What does it look like I'm doing here? I came back." Boog said smiling. Elliot scoffs. "For what? So you can blame me again on the shorts lady's christmas evening last night?"
"Nope." Said Boog, handing Elliot his present. "Merry Christmas buddy. I came to aplogize. I'm sorry for what I said last night, but I wanted to make it up to you." He said. Elliot look at the present curiously. He took the present and shake it gently, wondering what was inside. He took off the top and look inside. He gasped! Inside the present was his old antlers, a duck tape and a blue and green stripe scarf. But Elliot was more suprise seeing the antlers.
"Boog, is that my...." He said taking out one of the antlers from the present. "Yep, it's your old antlers. Took me a long time to find them. And the scarf thing....that was something special I had to give you." He said. Elliot was touch. He had never gotten anything this special before. It made him wanna cry. But instead, he saw something behind Boog's back. "Hey it's Dinkelman! How you get him back?" He asks.
"Beth fix him up for me." Boog says. Elliot sets down the christmas present on the ground and takes out the scarf wrapping it around his neck. It was the most warmest thing he had ever own. Then he took out the duck tape. "What's this?" He asks. "That's duck tape." Said Boog. "It fix things. Here I'll show you." He said. The other animals heard a thing and turn to see Boog's back facing them. They wonder what he was doing and where was that sound coming from.
When Boog was done, he releaved what he had done. He help put back both of Elliot's antlers back on his head, with a little help from the duck tape. The animals ooooh and aahhhh with pride. Elliot felt good as new. He touch both of his antlers. Thanks to the tape, the antlers wouldn't fall off. "Woo-hoo! This is great, I feel like a new deer again." He says jumping for joy. But stops when he begin to realize he didn't give something special for Boog. "What's wrong little buddy?" Boog asks. "It's christmas day and I've forgot to give you something special!" Elliot whines.
"Chill brother chill. You didn't have to give me anything." He said.
"I don't?" Said Elliot.
"No of course not." Boog said to his deer friend. "Christmas is about being with those you love. And I've got all the love at home right here." He said. "Now who wants some christmas carols?" He says. The animals sounded interested. "What's christmas carols?" Ian asks.
"Is that like singing?" Reilly asks.
Boog brought out a lot of green christmas hard-cover books and handed them out to Ian, Serge, Reilly, Giselle and to everyone else. "You're gonna love them. Wait til you try them out." Said Boog. The animals took a good look at the songs. They were impressed. "These are great! Can we sing them?" O'Toole said.
"Sure. Knock yourself out." Said Boog. The animals took their christmas carol books with them and stood in front of the christmas tree and begin to sing. Boog and Elliot happily watch together as they saw the animals singing with joy and happiness inside of them. Both the bear and deer look up and there it was, a snowflake rising from the sky. It begin to snow.
Boog and Elliot smile to each other. "This is the best christmas ever!! Let's do it every year. Can we Boog huh? Can we?" Elliot asks. "Sure we can partner. We can do this every year like the people back at my old home." Boog says patting Elliot on the back. He puts his big arm around his small deer friend as they watch the snow coming down slowly.
"Merry Christmas Boog." Elliot said giving Boog a big hug. Boog hugs his best friend back. "Merry Christmas Elliot."

Boog makes a funny little happy grin on his face as he recongize the sweet smell of hot cocoa.
